Crafted by Hand. Inspired by the Desert
Hello! My name is Yasmeen, founder of Terra Lumina Candles. I am a mother, artist, and middle school art teacher.
As an art teacher, I have always been drawn to the process of making. For years, I taught ceramics and fell in love with the medium’s ability to transform a simple piece of clay into something both beautiful and functional.
Teaching ceramics deepened my appreciation for the craft and inspired me to continue creating beyond the classroom. I wanted to find a way to keep making with this medium that I had come to love. One day, I decided to explore candle making. At the time, I had a collection of ceramic vessels I had created over the years, so I poured a batch of candles into them.
What began as a simple experiment quickly sparked something more. I fell in love with the process of combining handmade ceramics with candle making, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that were both functional and meaningful.
Around the same time, I became a mother. Motherhood changed my relationship with time and taught me how meaningful small moments can be. The quiet morning before the house wakes up and the peaceful moments after bedtime became opportunities to pause, breathe, and reconnect with myself.
As our family began transitioning toward a cleaner lifestyle, I thoughtfully carried those values into every Terra Lumina candle. Each ceramic vessel is crafted entirely by hand. Every piece is wheel-thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired by me before being hand-poured in small batches using soy wax, cotton wicks, and phthalate-free fragrance oils. Because every vessel is handmade, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Long after the candle has finished burning, the vessel is designed to remain part of your home. Whether reused as a planter, catch-all, or decorative piece, each vessel is created with longevity and intention in mind.
The name Terra Lumina comes from the Latin-inspired words for earth and light. The earth represents the hand-thrown ceramic vessel, while the light symbolizes the candle’s flame. Together, they reflect the heart of the brand.
More than a candle, each Terra Lumina piece is an invitation to create a morning ritual, an evening reset, or a quiet moment of reflection. My hope is that every candle brings a sense of comfort, connection, and beauty to your everyday life.
Thank you for being part of this story and supporting handmade craftsmanship.
